Eskil Steenberg is a temerarious man. He decided to develop a MMO all alone, and he promises that the game will be revolutionary. Gamesource has asked  him some questions about his work, and, also if Eskil is a man of few words, let's hear what he told.

GS : What's the origin of the title "Love"?

It comes from my love of game development.

GS : Why to develop a MMO alone? Are you a fool (Joke) or it's a challenge?

Cant I be both? I really had nothing else to do, and i realized that i had all the knowledge i needed to get it done.

GS : Could you talk about your previous experiences in videogames ?

Ive done a bit of game development in the past but mostly i have been working which tools and technologies for game development. Love was a way to not just make a game but try out some new technologies to improve development.

GS : Have you obtained the attention of any software houses yet ?

Yes.

GS : Could you talk about the game's background?

It was a long list of things that came together that made it possible, many of the things had to do with technology and tools, But from a gameplay standpoint i wanted to make an adventure game that was constantly evolving where the players could have an impact on the game. I wanted to remove the idea that the game gives you a mission you need to complete in order to move a pre made story along, and rather have the story organically evolve around your actions.

GS : What's Verse?

Verse is a realtime network protocol that lets you connect any 3d tool together in real time. If you make a change in one you can immediately see the change in the others. IT is incredibly useful when developing a game as you don't need to worry about loading and saving files. All my tools are connected to with Verse, My modeling tool Loq Airou , my Asset management tool Co on and the game itself.

GS : Your world seems not pre-defined, but in constant mutation, also for storyline. What about this aspect? How it works the buildings and cities (Will there be cities?) construction?

Players can build their own cities, in fact this will be a big part of the gameplay. But the AI will also build cities that you can raid or be attacked by. The AI cities will be generated and will even change depending on what the players do.

GS : What's the endgame, the goal of the game?

There is no end game, the goal is the get more resources to your city, but the goal of the AI is not just to make it there to get them, but also to take them away from you. So at times your city may be very advanced while at other times it may not be.

GS : Could you talk about the social aspects and the interactions between players?

Right now there is a chat system, but its something that i will develop further later.

GS : Against what kind of enemies, the characters will be able to fight?

They are still in development as part of the AI system, and i don't know right now.

GS : What are your influences ? What kind of MMOs do you like?

I don't play any MMOs, I would say my greatest influences are games like Quake and Zelda. Still i would say very much of this game is original.

GS : Will there be some sort of items crafting in game?

You can build your city, and set up infrastructures in it. Part of the infrastructure is that you can manufacture powerups. However it won't be like crafting in MMOs since it is not a item based game.

GS : What's the state of the game now?

Its moving along nicely, the major part i have left is AI.

GS : Will there be something that I didn't ask that you want to say or explain to us?

No not really.

Thanks Eskil for the interview.
